Over the past months, bird enthusiasts from across Europe have shared their favorite birding locations and helped grow an inspiring community-driven guide made by birdwatchers, for birdwatchers. By adding new birding places between October 1, 2025 and April 1, 2026, participants had the chance to win Leica binoculars. Now the time has come and we are excited to announce the three lucky winners:

The Leica Noctivid 10×42 binoculars have been won by Àlex Sastre Prieto from Spain.

“Last summer I traveled to Denmark with my family and wanted to spend some time in the mornings birdwatching around the area where we were. I didn’t know how to search for good birding sites so I literally googled ‘nice birding places in Denmark’ and your wonderful website Birdingplaces let me discover Gundsømagle, a wonderful place where I got a new lifer: Bearded Tit! Now I use Birdingplaces always when I go birding. I also added some nice areas myself around where I live in Spain. That is the great thing about Birdingplaces, that birders share the birdwatching areas they know well.

When I went birding with the Leica Noctivid for the first time, it was amazing! What impressed me the most is the light they get even in dark moments of dawn, where birders have to be quite ready because it is a moment of great activity! Well, what can I say more about one of the best binoculars ever made? I’m thrilled to think that I got binoculars I will use for the rest of my birding days as they are of such great quality that they last forever. Many thanks Leica and Birdingplaces!”

The Leica Trinovid 10×42 HD binoculars have been won by Guido Theunis from The Netherlands.

“I discovered Birdingplaces during my search for new areas to photograph birds in their natural habitat. What immediately appealed to me was the use of digital maps. This gives you an instant clear picture of the location and distances. Combined with the photos and bird lists, you quickly know what to expect from an area. And Birdingplaces also helps you discover lesser-known gems.

The first time I held the Leica Trinovid 10×42 in my hands, I was immediately enthusiastic. The binoculars fit comfortably in the hand, are light and compact, yet offer a powerful 10x magnification. The image is razor-sharp and steady.

I took the binoculars straight to the nature reserve of Tiengemeten, a car-free island has been returned to nature and shows what nature restoration can mean. One of the highlights was observing a marsh harrier hunting above the reeds. Thanks to the binoculars, the bird could be beautifully followed in flight — an impressive spectacle. Birdingplaces and Leica, thank you for these beautiful binoculars!”

The Leica Trinovid 10×25 BCA binoculars have been won by Frida Nettelbladt from Sweden.

“I discovered Birdingplaces this winter while working on a folder about birding spots along the Halland coast in Sweden for the Getterön nature centre. I like the focus of Birdingplaces on providing a lot of useful details about spots like parking and trails. And it is a great tool to use while travelling.

The Leica Trinovid 10×25 BCA are a neat compact binoculars, and surprisingly useful with great viewing quality despite being so small. I will have a really good use for them a work, while doing biodiversity surveys, when I carry a lot of other equipment. They will be useful not only for identifying birds but also finding polypores and larger lichen species growing high up in the trees. Thank you for this wonderful surprise.”

Congratulations to the winners!
